This is a tranquil shot of the Thames, taken from an island by the lock in Staines.
You can walk from the centre of Staines for miles down the river. This stretch of the Thames is quite serene. This photograph was taken on a very warm day and shows a typical riverside scene.
This picture was shot on a very, very windy day. Consequently, it was exceptionally difficult to setup the camera, focus and take the shot without the camera wobbing in the wind. Shooting on black and white film was perfect for conveying the dramatic starkness of this scene. This beach is by the northern coastal town of Seaham in County Durham.
